All good things come to an end and on Wednesday 29th April the last run of “Rennie’s 12 Hour Relay” was held here in Abqaiq. This event organized by Ivie Rennie, an analytical chemist in SAPED/SALD, was the 7th annual run. Due to Rennie’s imminent retirement from Aramco on the 1st June 2009 after 28 years and 3 months with the company it was also sadly the last of this particular event.

Involving teams of 7 runners competing on a 2 mile course in a relay format for exactly 12 hours, this event attracted 9 teams this year. The 63 runners aged from 12 to 60 years ran through the night for a total of 800 miles! The Abqaiq Track group was very well supported by the Saudi Aramco Wellness Runners from Dhahran. Participants came to the event from as far apart as Udhailiyah and Jubail. With the support of cyclists leading the way round the route and a support team of route marshals initial hiccups were fast resolved.  At Rennie’s house the timekeepers did an outstanding job monitoring the runners and inside the food marshals helped maintain a supply of food and water for all involved.

Abqaiq Track Group would like to thank the following departments for their support in making this a highly successful event:                                               Click Photo to Enlarge
